Overnight 1mg Dexamethasone Suppression Test

The Overnight 1mg Dexamethasone Suppression Test is a diagnostic procedure used to assess cortisol production by administering 1mg of dexamethasone at night and measuring cortisol levels the next morning.

You will need to make an appointment for this test.

  1. The Pathology Collector who gave you this form will have also given you two dexamethasone tablets.
  2. Swallow these tablets in the evening between the hours of 10pm and 11pm (22:00 – 23:00 hrs).
  3. In the morning return to the Collection Centre for your blood test (plasma cortisol) between the hours of 8am and 9am (08:00 – 09:00 hrs).
